Botox vs. Juvederm: What's the difference?

One of the most frequently asked questions people ask us what is better: Botox  and Juvederm. Both injections work to minimize or eliminate the appearance of wrinkles and help to look younger. Which one is better depends on what result you would like to see?

Juvederm is restoring the face volume and refilling areas that need to be replenished. For example, tear troughs, cheekbones, temples, and lips.

Botox is a tool to create face lifting and remove some wrinkles, which face exaggerated facial expressions.

Let's take a look at their similarities and differences.

Botox or Juvederm?

Both, Botox  and Juvederm are FDA-approved injectables. They are famous for anti-aging treatments. However, Botox and Juvederm operate on certain principles and work best on different wrinkles for solving various problems.

Botox works for lifting and wrinkles removal.

Botox Cosmetic is a synthetic protein that relaxes the muscles.

Constriction activity of muscles is increasing with age. Extra muscle spasm moves the fat out. Muscles fold and relax the skin frequently—skin responses with fine lines and wrinkles creation.

Botox relaxes muscles to smooth their aggressiveness. The facial expression is changing to relaxed and friendly after the relaxation.

The depth of wrinkles is decreasing after Botox injections as well.

The goal for Botox is to block the activity of muscles, called depressors. Part of the forehead muscles and the muscles responsible for the marionette lines are depressors. When Botox blocks them, the face responds with lifting: the look changes to open, and droopy upper eyelids rise. Decreasing muscles' activity gives the face a friendly-looking appearance, lifts the lip corners, and removes jaws.

Botox is a relaxer that works for lifting and wrinkles removal.

What Types of Wrinkles do Botox relax?

While both treatments were effectively smoothing out the wrinkles on your face, they do not work on the same type of wrinkles.

Botox is best for the facial expression lines in the skin around the eyes and on the forehead. These wrinkles appear on movement, such as when you furrow your brow and squint your eyes.

It may also be injected to soften the dimpling of the chin and to get rid of jaws. It soothes neckbands and removes neck circles. Botox can change your appearance, giving you a foxy look, lifting the nose tip, removing gummy smile, and underlying your cheekbones.

What Types of Wrinkles do Juvederm Improves?

Juvederm is a fully synthetic smooth gel filler made of hyaluronic acid. It helps to replenish the areas of the face where the skin's volume and fullness have been lost due to age, sageness, or other reasons. In 2020 Juvederm was started to be considered as the reinforcement of ligaments. Because ligaments' function is to support fat compartments, Juvederm works as a strong holder to keep them in place. It prevents gravity signs.

For the young generation, Juvederm is a "Beauty look creator." It underlines cheekbones, creates Instagram jawline profiles, and can give your lips a desirable look.

For the face with deep lines, saggy skin, and features of gravity, Juvederm creates face lifting. It is useful for plumping and defining lips at any age.

How to decide what to do Botox or Juvederm?

When trying to decide between Botox or Juvederm, you're likely to consider:

  1. how quickly you'll see results and

  2. how long those results will last.

How quickly will you see results after Botox and Juvederm injections?

Botox results appear on day three- eight and show more improvements in two weeks.

Juvederm result is visible right away. It is improving within two weeks and shows maximum beauty two weeks after the injections.

How long Botox injections and Juvederm injections results will last?

The outcome for any cosmetic injection will vary from person to person and depends on many factors.

The number of units injected in one point and area of injections is crucial for Botox. The most prolonged result you will see in the space between the eyebrows. The shortest work the body will hold on the forehead area and around the eyes. Specialists consider Botox as a dosage-dependent treatment. The more units are injected in one point; the stronger will be muscle relaxation. It means that they need more time to restore the activity.

If you like a natural look, your result will last 4-5 months.

Over time, when facial muscles aren't used, they eventually get shorter and smaller. Regular use of Botox may extend the results for more extended periods.

Juvederm typically provides optimal results with a single treatment ranging from 9 months up to 18 months. These results also depend on hyaluronic acid density. Over the bone injections say longer, then more superficial. Combination of deep and more superficial injections is a secret to up to two years Juvederm longevity.

The number of Juvederm syringes does not affect the fact of how long it lasts.

Like Juvederm Volume and Juvederm Vollift, provide the longest-lasting results close to two years, compared to other fillers.
