What Is SkinVive by Juvéderm?

SkinVive by Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid injectable designed to improve skin hydration and texture without adding significant facial volume. Unlike traditional Dermal Fillers used to restore volume or reshape facial features, SkinVive works within the skin to improve its quality while preserving natural facial contours.

What Can SkinVive Improve?

SkinVive can improve several changes associated with early and mature skin aging without significantly changing facial volume or shape. At MedVSPA, we use it to address:

  • Fine lines and crepey texture: Helps soften superficial lines and improve the appearance of thin, finely wrinkled skin.
  • Early skin laxity: Can improve the overall quality and appearance of skin beginning to look less firm, although it does not replace treatments designed for lifting or structural support.
  • Loss of smoothness and radiance: Helps improve skin texture so the skin appears smoother and fresher.
  • Early signs of aging: Useful when skin changes are becoming noticeable but significant volume replacement or structural correction is not yet needed.
  • Dryness and dehydration: Helps skin feel more hydrated and comfortable, particularly as dryness increases with age.

Where We Use SkinVive

SkinVive can be used in several facial areas where traditional volume replacement may not be the primary goal. At MedVSPA, the areas treated depend on the patient’s age, anatomy and pattern of facial change.

SkinVive Under Eyes

We use SkinVive under the eyes when subtle hollowness, darkness or early changes create a tired appearance without a clear need for traditional tear trough filler. More significant hollowness, puffiness or structural volume loss requires a different assessment and may need Tear Trough Filler or another treatment approach.

Mature Lips, Lip Lines and Dryness

For mature lips, SkinVive can be used when the priority is lip quality rather than increasing lip size. It is particularly useful when lips have become drier, fine lines are developing, or age-related changes have affected their natural appearance. The result is intended to remain subtle rather than create an augmented lip.

Smoker’s Lines and the Perioral Area

SkinVive allows us to treat the lips and surrounding mouth area together rather than chasing individual vertical lines with filler. This approach is especially useful in mature faces, where several small changes around the mouth often develop at the same time.

Nasolabial Folds and Accordion Lines

In younger and early-aging faces, SkinVive may be used for developing nasolabial folds and accordion lines when substantial structural correction is not yet required. Deeper folds associated with significant volume loss or facial support changes require a different treatment plan.

SkinVive for Mature Skin

In mature faces, SkinVive is particularly useful when the goal is to improve skin quality without making the face look fuller or changing its natural proportions. Clinical research has shown improvements in skin smoothness, fine lines and hydration—benefits that become increasingly relevant as skin becomes drier and thinner with age.

At MedVSPA, we use SkinVive to address the skin-quality component of facial aging, while other treatments may be selected separately when volume loss, muscle activity or reduced facial support also need to be addressed.

SkinVive for Early Facial Aging

SkinVive can be useful when the first signs of facial aging appear but significant volume replacement is not yet needed. In clients in their 30s and 40s, we often see early under-eye changes, developing nasolabial folds, accordion lines and changes in skin quality.

At this stage, the goal is to improve the skin without changing the natural shape of the face. SkinVive can treat several areas in the same session and may be combined with RF microneedling or Botox when appropriate.

SkinVive vs Dermal Fillers

SkinVive and traditional dermal fillers are both hyaluronic acid injectables, but they are used for different goals. SkinVive focuses on skin quality and hydration, while traditional fillers are used when facial volume, projection or structural support needs to be restored.

For example, chin or jawline filler can reshape and support facial contours, while tear trough filler may be considered when true under-eye volume loss is present. SkinVive is a better fit when the priority is improving the skin without significantly changing facial shape or adding volume.

In some patients, both approaches are useful because improving skin quality does not replace structural correction when volume has actually been lost.

How SkinVive Fits Into a Facial Treatment Plan

SkinVive is often combined with other treatments because mature facial aging involves several different processes at the same time.

At MedVSPA, we may address skin quality, collagen remodeling, structural support and muscle activity separately rather than expecting one treatment to do everything.

SkinVive and RF Microneedling

In our clinical experience, SkinVive and RF microneedling can enhance the overall result when used as part of the same treatment plan. RF microneedling stimulates a remodeling response in the skin, while SkinVive improves the environment and quality of the treated skin. We see the combination as complementary: one treatment focuses on remodeling, while the other supports skin quality and hydration.

Do You Still Need SkinVive After HArmonyCa?

Yes. HArmonyCa and SkinVive have different roles, so having HArmonyCa does not necessarily replace the need for SkinVive. HArmonyCa provides support and stimulates collagen formation in the areas where it is injected, primarily the lateral face in our practice. SkinVive is used more broadly to improve skin quality, including areas such as the under-eyes, lips and perioral region.

In mature clients, we may therefore use HArmonyCa for support and biostimulation and SkinVive for skin quality across additional facial areas.

SkinVive and Botox

Botox and SkinVive address two different components of facial aging. Botox reduces selected muscle activity, while SkinVive focuses on skin quality. In a mature face, both may be important because improving the skin does not correct excessive muscle activity, and reducing muscle activity does not address changes in skin quality.

SkinVive Treatment and Recovery

SkinVive treatment is planned according to the areas showing changes in skin quality rather than following the same injection pattern for every client. The number of areas treated and the amount of product used depend on age, skin condition and individual treatment goals.

What We Can Treat in One Appointment

SkinVive can be used to treat multiple areas of the face and neck in one appointment. Depending on the client’s needs, we may treat the under-eyes, lips, perioral area, nasolabial folds, accordion lines and other areas where skin quality has changed.

The neck can also be treated during the same session. This allows us to address facial and neck skin together, rather than focusing on one isolated area.

When Results Develop and How Long They Last

SkinVive results can be visible immediately, with further improvement developing over the following weeks and the most noticeable result typically seen around one month in our clinical experience. Results commonly remain noticeable for approximately 6–9 months, although duration varies with age, skin condition, treatment area and individual response.

Downtime and Possible Side Effects

Downtime after SkinVive is usually minimal, and most clients can return to their usual activities soon after treatment. Mild tenderness or swelling may occur but is typically minimal.

Bruising is possible because we may use both a cannula and a needle during the same treatment, depending on the areas being injected. The amount of bruising varies between clients and usually resolves gradually.

Before treatment, we review medical history, previous injectable treatments and the areas being treated.

SkinVive Cost in Toronto

SkinVive costs $500 per syringe at MedVSPA Toronto. In our practice, a full-face treatment typically uses 2 syringes, and treating the neck typically uses 2 syringes. The exact amount depends on the areas treated and individual skin needs.

FAQ SkinVive Injections in Toronto

1. Is SkinVive a filler or a skin booster?

SkinVive is a hyaluronic acid injectable designed primarily to improve skin quality rather than restore facial volume or reshape facial features. Although it belongs to the Juvéderm family, we use it differently from traditional volumizing fillers.

2. Can SkinVive help mature lips without making them look bigger?

Yes. In our practice, SkinVive is particularly useful for mature lips when the goal is better hydration and smoother lip quality without creating an augmented appearance. It can also be used to address fine lines affecting the lips and surrounding mouth area.

3. Why might SkinVive be chosen instead of traditional filler for fine lines?

SkinVive may be considered when fine lines are related more to declining skin quality than to loss of facial volume or structure. This allows us to improve the skin without using a volumizing filler simply to treat superficial lines.

4. How many SkinVive treatments do I need?

SkinVive is performed as a one-time treatment and does not require a series of sessions. Multiple areas of the face and neck can be treated during the same appointment, with maintenance treatment considered as the results gradually diminish over time.

5. What is the best age to start SkinVive?

There is no single best age to start SkinVive because treatment depends on skin changes rather than age alone. Younger clients may benefit when early fine lines or changes in skin quality appear, while mature clients may use SkinVive to address more established age-related skin changes.
